I’ve honestly never seen the SNL Coneheads skit. The Coneheads bugged me and the commercial was only funny because of the wife’s reaction to the khaki pants. I’m giving this commercial 2-stars because the originality was a zero. State Farm just redid one of their commercials in a less funny way. They could have done the Coneheads in a different setting and the plot line might have been better, but this was annoying.
I’m giving “Jake from Planet State Farm” a 5-star rating – the highest we can go! This commercial is hilarious and fun to watch. Why shouldn’t insurance ads be fun?! I challenge you to watch “Jake from Planet State Farm” starring Coneheads, Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin, and not laugh out loud. Insurance is a serious matter, but if the insurance company is boring and serious in their commercials, they may lose the attention of their current and potential customers.

A rising student of film, Graham measures all advertising against his favorite movie scenes. So a commercial with a good car chase plays well. Better with an explosion. And funny. It should be funny. So a speeding car that explodes in an amusing way will sell product.
