This is a great ad. I don’t remember ever doing this as a kid, but I remember bugging my mom and dad every time we stopped to get candy or chips. My parents would always get annoyed and would tell us to chill out. My favorite part is when the employee’s face is struck with horror. This really shows the advantage of fewer stops. It’s short, comical and informative. It gets the point across that minivans are not the only car for family road trips.
The commercial, Mom, was great fun and made me want to watch the whole ad again – maybe even go look at the new VW’s and all their new gadgets. The photography was over the top and made a great contrast to the peaceful scene in the car. The characters were perfect – from the fat kid to the calm mom. Most car ads are boring – this one was anything but boring.

A rising student of film, Graham measures all advertising against his favorite movie scenes. So a commercial with a good car chase plays well. Better with an explosion. And funny. It should be funny. So a speeding car that explodes in an amusing way will sell product.
